Description

Position Summary:

As directed by the Vice President, PR and Communication Strategy, the Director, Speechwriting will lead NAR's executive communications strategy and speech writing effort.  The Director will develop speaking strategies that support NAR leadership to include NAR’s CEO, president, vice presidents, and other volunteer leaders.  The position will manage and protect the REALTOR brand across all speech presentation platforms and develop NAR’s key messages for leadership volunteers based on the association’s strategic plan and its business priorities.  The Director serves as strategist, editorial director and lead for the speech team to write speeches, talking points, and op-eds for NAR leadership.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of three speech writers in creating high-level, visually appealing presentations for NAR.
  • Develop strategy and determine priorities with workflow and engage in close collaboration with the Leadership Resources team.
  • Serve as main speechwriter for NAR’s CEO and top volunteer leaders
  • Identify earned media opportunities for NAR CEO and volunteer leaders
  • Repurpose speeches into Op-Eds, digital content and social media.
  • Work in conjunction with VPs and team to develop speech strategy that supports overall communication strategy.
  • Develop new ideas and approaches for presentations. 
  • Serve as editor to ensure quality control of all executive communications products. 
  • Lead team to develop professional graphic presentations for NAR leadership. 
  • Collaborate with Director, Creative and Marketing Strategy to ensure graphics are consistent with overall theme of association-wide branding.
  • Ensure visual presentation matches NAR leadership personal stories and NAR program updates.
  • Other duties, as assigned
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Communications, English, Political Science, Government, Business, Public Administration or related field. Masters desirable.
  • At least 10 years’ writing and editing experience required. Specific experience writing speeches for C-Suite leaders, government/elected officials or top association executives/volunteers.
  • At least 5 years’ supervisory experience required.
  • Ability and experience crafting Op-Eds that can run in top tier news outlets/publications.
  • Experience in garnering earned media
  • Proven experience with developing strong presentations. Excellent writing and editing skills. Can create presentations that inform, educate and inspire audience to take action.
  • Experience in developing message platforms and implementing consistent themes throughout multiple presentations.
  • Experience serving as an editor for a publication or proven strong editing skills.
  • Qualified candidates must have advanced knowledge and experience in the execution of integrated programs and campaigns.
  • Candidates must also have the ability to maintain quality standards and meet deadlines under a heavy workload and have proven ability to develop and manage teams.
  • Problem-solving and project-management skills are required. This position also requires excellent computer skills in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
