Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Web and Email Content Strategy on the Digital Marketing Operations team, the Manager of Email is responsible for evolving NAR's email channel into a high-performing, data-informed, and efficiently run communication platform. The role serves as NAR's email expert, working with Marketing & Communications as an advisor and partner, while leading the strategy, modernization, and operational excellence of NAR's email program.
The Manager of Email oversees a production team, ensuring consistent quality and throughput while focusing personally on strategy, governance, and cross-functional partnership. The role also partners with Business Intelligence on technology integrations and segmentation strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Email Strategy & Governance:
- Own NAR's email strategy end-to-end: evaluate programs for member value, streamline the portfolio, and redirect efforts that belong in other channels.
- Own, set and enforce standards for email content, structure, accessibility, and ad placement.
- Design, build, and maintain marketing automation programs and journeys to reduce manual effort and improve targeting.
- Stay current on email industry trends, deliverability standards, and best practices; conduct trend analysis across categories and audiences and evangelize insights across the organization.
- Test, analyze, and optimize campaigns through A/B testing and other techniques to increase open rates, click-throughs, and member engagement.
Cross-Functional Partnerships
- Own email list management operations (unsubscribes, suppression updates, list accuracy) and train stakeholders on list processes.
- Advise stakeholder teams on campaign approach and system capabilities from planning through execution.
- Partner with Business Intelligence to define KPIs, build marketing integrations, develop audience segmentation strategies, and establish performance reporting for email campaigns.
Team & Production Management:
- Manage a team of full-time email production staff, ensuring quality and timely delivery across NAR's email portfolio.
- Establish and maintain workflows and processes that keep production running efficiently at scale.
- Create and maintain the master email calendar to coordinate priorities, timelines, and stakeholder inputs.
- Coach and develop team members on production quality, tools, and best practices.
- Step in to build or quality-check email directly when accuracy and timeliness require it, or as volume necessitates.
- Troubleshoot production, data, and deliverability issues, and coordinate across editors, stakeholders, and technical teams to resolve them.
Vendor & Platform Management:
- Manage the relationship with the email service provider, including budgeting, invoicing, chargebacks, and customer support coordination.
- Oversee all platform updates, upgrades, and system issues; communicate changes to NAR user groups.
- Evaluate platform capabilities against program needs and recommend enhancements or changes.
Qualifications:
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in email marketing, with progressive responsibility in strategy and team leadership
- Demonstrated success building or modernizing an email program
- Experience managing production staff and establishing scalable workflows
- Strong understanding of email deliverability, CAN-SPAM compliance, and accessibility
- Working knowledge of email platforms (Iterable preferred), platform integrations, and marketing automation tools
- Intermediate HTML/CSS skills
- Ability to interpret analytics and translate performance data into strategic recommendations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to influence decisions, guide stakeholders, and enforce standards
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with analytics, data science, and marketing teams
Preferred:
- Familiarity with audience segmentation methodologies and data-driven targeting
- Experience managing vendor relationships including budgeting and contract oversight
- Experience designing complex marketing automation journeys and workflows
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
