Position Summary:
The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Research group is hiring an Economist to support our work analyzing housing market conditions, homeownership trends, and affordability challenges across the U.S. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to nationally recognized research that informs real estate professionals, policymakers, and the public.
You will work closely with the Senior Economist to analyze data, create market insights, and produce research products that translate economic trends into accessible information. This position is ideal for someone who combines strong data skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for housing issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect, clean, and analyze data from public (e.g., U.S. Census, ACS, BLS, HMDA) and proprietary sources.
- Produce regular and ad hoc analyses on home prices, inventory, sales, affordability, and demographic shifts.
- Support the development of monthly and quarterly research reports, policy briefs, and blog posts.
- Create clear and engaging data visualizations and presentations using tools like Excel, Tableau, or Power BI
- Conduct background research and literature reviews to inform applied housing studies.
- Assist in responding to media, policy, and internal data requests.
- Collaborate with colleagues across research, advocacy, and communications teams.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Economics, Statistics, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of applied research experience (can include internships or academic research if highly relevant).
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, R, Python, or Stata.
- Strong writing skills - able to explain complex topics clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Attention to detail, critical thinking, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.
- Interest in housing markets, economic policy, and real estate trends.
Compensation: $75,000-$110,000
