Position Summary:
The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is seeking an HR Coordinator to join our team in Washington, DC. Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, this role is ideal for an early-career HR professional who is eager to build foundational systems and processes while growing their expertise across the full spectrum of HR functions. You'll be a trusted resource for our DC office, helping to create structure, centralize information, and improve the employee experience from recruitment through offboarding. This position offers significant opportunity for professional development and increasing responsibility as you demonstrate your capabilities and initiative.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

Recruitment Coordination
  • Coordinate the full interview process for DC-based positions, including scheduling, candidate communication, and logistics
  • Maintain our applicant tracking system with accurate, up-to-date information
  • Support recruitment efforts for entry-level positions, with opportunity to take on additional sourcing and hiring responsibilities as you develop
Employee Relations
  • Serve as an accessible first point of contact for staff questions about HR policies, procedures, and resources
  • Partner with people leaders to address employee concerns and support positive workplace relationships
  • Help identify patterns and opportunities to improve the employee experience

Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Own the onboarding process for new DC employees—from offer acceptance through their first 90 days
  • Create, refine, and maintain onboarding materials and documentation that provide clarity and consistency
  • Develop and implement offboarding processes that capture institutional knowledge and ensure smooth transitions
  • Conduct new employee orientations that immerse people in NAR's culture and set them up for success
HR Operations & Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to create structure and centralize HR information across the DC office
  • Build and refine processes that increase efficiency and make the HR team's work more sustainable
  • Manage all new hire documentation in coordination with our Chicago office
  • Support benefits enrollment, communications, and administration as needed
  • Other responsibilities as the role evolves

Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years of HR experience (internships, rotational programs, or generalist roles welcome)
  • Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills—you read the room well and build trust easily
  • Intellectual curiosity and genuine interest in understanding how HR functions connect to business outcomes
  • Self-directed work style with the ability to create structure in ambiguous situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver sensitive information with professionalism
  • Comfort managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines
  • Discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with HRIS and applicant tracking systems
  • Basic knowledge of federal and DC employment laws and regulations
  • Experience improving processes or creating documentation/resources from scratch

Compensation: $60,000- $75,000
