Description

Position Summary:

Lead NAR’s advocacy communications and outreach efforts to ensure that NAR is positioned as the most credible, trusted source of real estate information with the Capitol Hill Audience, state and local officials, major national, regional, and local media outlets – including print, broadcast, and online/social media. This includes helping to develop NAR’s strategic communication plan and key messages. Manage day to day operation of Advocacy Communications team and supervise two staff members. Director will proactively pitch news stories based on the association’s strategic plan and its advocacy priorities. Identify and proactively prepare for potential image/credibility problems, and serve as one of the spokespersons for NAR with the media – which will include the Capitol Hill publications as well as identifying and training members and other staff to speak as spokespersons.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and ensure effective, proactive and responsive advocacy communication, media outreach strategies and tactics.
  • Lead and supervise a team of two advocacy communications professionals.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for NAR with the Capitol Hill, and national media as well as identifying and training members and other staff to speak as spokespersons.
  • Help develop NAR’s strategic advocacy communications plan and key messages.
  • Develop and manage budget for the Advocacy Communications area.
  • Build relationships with and provide support for local and state REALTOR® associations to ensure that NAR’s advocacy and priority issues messaging and communications are consistent across the REALTOR® association.
  • Plan and provide media/message training with local and state association leaders at NAR’s annual conference.
  • Ensures NAR’s advocacy issues are covered in the Capitol Hill and national media during major meetings, including the midyear meetings and annual conferences.
  • Edit advocacy communications outreach materials, including press releases, web content and other materials.
  • Continue to encourage team to evolve new ideas and approaches for advocacy communications.

Qualifications:

  • BA Degree in public relations, political science, communications, journalism, English, public administration, psychology or related field.
  • 10-12 years communications and or media relations experience.
  • 5-8 years supervisory experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the execution of integrated communication outreach campaigns targeted to a Capitol Hill, Federal Agency, national and local audience.
  • Experience serving as a media spokesperson for an organization on the national and local level, including experience proactively pitching and placing story ideas in national and local media.
  • Ability and experience crafting press releases, message documents/talking points, social media posts, Op-Eds and web content.
  • Ability to maintain quality standards and meet deadlines under a heavy workload and have proven ability to develop and manage teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
