Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President, State & Local Services & Advocacy Operations, the Director, Community Outreach is responsible for implementing all elements NAR’s Community Outreach programs & services.  Community Outreach is highlighted by an array of advocacy services provided to REALTOR® State/Local Associations aimed at increasing their advocacy engagement and influence on state and local public policy through a myriad of programs, services and grants.  The right candidate will also develop and implement strategies to inform and educate REALTORS and REALTOR Association professional staff on community-based and state-based advocacy engagement, influencing public policy and strengthening community development.   

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads a professional staff of 3 to develop and deliver beneficial programs and services to REALTORS through their state and local associations.
  • Manages external consultants and vendors to deliver services with prudent resource management.
  • Interacts with members and professional staff to ascertain emerging legislative issues and community development trends and deliver related programs, services and grants to assist REALTOR Associations.  
  • Integrates with various related and interested organizations, including serving on outside organization boards, to champion the NAR position on real estate and community development issues and to stay abreast of emerging issues and trends.
  • Promotes Community Outreach programs, services and grants to Government Affairs Directors (GADs), Association Executives (AE) and other professional staff and to discern their needs and develop appropriate and relative services to address those needs.
  • Other duties, as assigned
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 10 years of legislative or public policy development at the local or state level. In depth knowledge of legislative process and strategies
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of real estate development, building, community development, zoning, infrastructure, land use and other real estate related issues and processes
  • Solid interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Exceptional communication skills—verbal, written, and presentation
  • Ability to travel up to 35%-45%
