Description

Position Summary:
NAR’s Legal team is seeking an experienced and highly proficient Trademark Paralegal to join their team. Reporting to the Senior Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs, the Trademark Paralegal will be responsible for assisting with NAR’s trademark enforcement and educational efforts, including monitoring use of NAR’s trademarks, corresponding with third parties regarding proper use of NAR’s trademarks, and maintaining NAR’s docket of national and international trademark applications and registrations by preparing docket reports and monitoring upcoming deadlines. This position requires familiarity with the U.S. Trademark Office’s filing system, the lifecycle of trademarks, and experience conducting knockout and preliminary searches is highly preferred. The ideal candidate will have a keen attention to detail; a collaborative and positive attitude; and superior organizational and communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with domestic and international trademark maintenance, enforcement, and prosecution efforts
  • Monitor trademark watch notices
  • Correspond with NAR’s members, affiliated entities, and the general public related use of NAR’s trademarks
  • Prepare docket reports of upcoming deadlines
  • Assist with preparation and monitoring of Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) proceedings
  • Conduct knockout and preliminary trademark searches
  • Conduct legal research using WestLaw, Practical Law, and Pacer
  • Assist with a variety of administrative functions and research needs for the Legal Affairs team, including typing, proofreading, contract and document filing, and other duties, as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; paralegal certification is a plus
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience as a paralegal where responsibilities included trademark-related work
  • Demonstrate knowledge in trademark related laws and proceedings and the use of legal search tools
  • Proficiency with use and understanding of the U.S. Trademark Office’s online filing systems
  • Self-starter with the ability to take action and work with minimal supervision
  • Adept with managing difficult conversations while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor
  • Results-oriented with high attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to think in innovative ways to find solutions to problem
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office—Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional communication skills—verbal, written, and presentation
  • Strong customer relations and interpersonal skills with a high level of response to all inquiries
