Position Summary:

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is seeking a Business Meetings & Events Manager for its Meetings & Events Team. This individual will be primarily responsible for managing approximately 30 meetings annually – ranging from 20-2000 attendees – from site selection through billing reconciliation. The Business Meetings & Events Manager will report to the Director, Business Meetings & Events.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate and author all hotel/facility contracts, including liability issues, performance guarantees, cancelation damages, financial terms, room block/space guarantees, rates, etc.
  • Provide expert advance planning of all details for assigned meetings which the position contracts.
  • Collaborate with various teams across organization to provide expert planning services that best meet members’ needs.
  • Work in tandem with other team members on their assigned meetings.
  • On larger or more complex meetings, manage on-site execution of all program aspects.
  • Proactively ensure hotel and NAR adherence to respective contractual commitments. Enforce NAR contract terms, or negotiate resolution and fair consideration when defaults do occur.
  • Travel to and manage various functions at NAR’s 20,000-person annual conference, NAR NXT.
  • Make strategic use of knowledge in mergers and acquisitions, hotel supply/demand in frequently-used locations, and their impact on NAR business, in negotiations and contracts.
  • Manage NAR’s Travel Agency and trains NAR staff on functionality of booking platform
  • Liaison to NAR’s preferred airlines and negotiates flight discounts and travel loyalty programs


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of seven years of experience in meeting planning/similar operational role
  • Excellent organization, written communication and negotiation skills
  • Understanding of legal principals and processes as related to hotel/venue contracts
  • Experience with hotel meeting services
  • Ability to form effective industry relationships
  • Ability to work on and manage multiple projects within tight timelines
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
