Position Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and resourceful Business News Writer specializing in covering association and real estate news to join our seasoned and dedicated team. As the frontline storyteller for our audience, you will be responsible for identifying, writing, and delivering NAR breaking news stories across various channels within NAR products and websites. This role requires agility, tenacity, and collaboration in reporting to ensure our audiences receive timely and credible information.   • Leads the breaking of NAR news for REALTOR® Magazine
  • Working with the communications agencies, programs, public relations and content teams, identifies story ideas and newsworthy developments involving NAR and in support of promoting the value of a REALTOR®
  • Writes news pieces in support of NAR’s communications strategy
  • Works closely with the PR team and executive editors on content planning, development, and distribution
  • Understands and stays abreast of NAR program plans, NAR news, legal and advocacy developments, and real estate news

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • React quickly to unfolding events, breaking news, announcements, and regulatory and legal developments, providing real-time coverage and updates
  • Conduct thorough research, verification, and fact-checking to ensure the accuracy and reliability of breaking news reports before publication or broadcast
  • Collaborate closely with executive editors, internal stakeholders, and fellow digital teammates to prioritize and coordinate coverage of breaking news events, allocating resources effectively to provide comprehensive coverage
  • Utilize various storytelling formats, including written articles, live blogs, video updates, social media posts, and multimedia content, to deliver breaking news across different platforms
  • Engage with NAR members, industry sources, SMEs, and stakeholders to gather firsthand accounts, insights, and perspectives on breaking news events
  • Adhere to editorial guidelines, legal standards, and ethical principles in reporting breaking news, including sensitivity to content matter, privacy, accuracy, fairness and balance
  • Other duties, as assigned
 

Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of related experience
  • Proven experience as a journalist or reporter covering breaking news, preferably in the business or legal sector, real estate is a strong plus
  • Exceptional news judgment, critical thinking skills, and the ability to quickly assess the significance and impact of breaking news events
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities with a demonstrated track record of producing clear, concise, and compelling news content under tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in digital news gathering tools, social media platforms, content management systems (CMS) and multimedia production software
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced newsroom environment
  • Commitment to journalistic integrity, accuracy, objectivity and ethical standards in reporting breaking news
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
Compensation: $91,500 - $125,000, depending on office location
