Description

Position Summary:

As directed by the Director, Speechwriting, the Senior Speechwriter will conceive of, recommend, research, write, edit, and fact check communications for NAR’s volunteer leaders and senior staff. The Senior Speechwriter will ensure quality and message consistency in communications including speeches, video scripts, letters, opinion articles, annual reports, Q&A’s, podcasts, webcasts, and other projects.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research the needs and attitudes of targeted internal or external audiences. Write clear, vivid prose for speeches, video scripts, letters, opinion articles, annual reports, Q&A’s, podcasts, webcasts, and other projects for NAR leadership. Recommend and generate ideas for content; conduct background research, investigation, and interviews to ensure high quality and accuracy.
  • Create communications for NAR leadership at NAR’s major meetings, including Annual Conference, Legislative Meeting, and other events
  • In conjunction with graphics team, develop brand-right and contemporary graphic presentations for NAR leadership to accompany speeches and written deliverables.
  • Work with Marketing and Digital teams on social media content, campaigns, and initiatives to promote NAR’s key messages and brand among key constituencies.
  • Develop relationships with stakeholders both inside and outside of the organization to promote consistent messaging for NAR leadership and to ensure alignment with NAR’s Mission and Core Values.
  • Advise NAR leadership on communications presentation, style, and delivery.
  • Provide other strategic communications support to NAR leadership as assigned.
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Major in communications, journalism, English, literature, public administration, political science or related field preferred. 
  • 5 to 8 years speechwriting experience with a portfolio demonstrating proven success writing for leaders in trade associations, government, non-profits or the private sector.
  • Advanced communications skills, writing, editing, proofreading, and time management. 
  • Proficient in research. Attention to detail and accuracy essential.
  • Candidates must have the ability to maintain quality standards and meet deadlines under a heavy workload.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
