Position Summary:

As part of the Member Experience, Engagement, and Legal Affairs group, the Director, Diversity and Inclusion will report to the Vice President of Engagement and will be primarily responsible for developing NAR’s strategy to enhance the inclusion of diversity in association leadership. The right candidate will effectively take the lead in developing and utilizing targeted resources, products and services to assist the 50 state and over 1,100 local REALTOR® associations in creating their plan and implementing programs to expand diversity in their leadership. There will also be opportunity to work directly with members to build awareness and inclusion in NAR through partnerships with other organizations, sponsorship of industry events and publications. Collaboration across NAR teams will also be required in order to communicate strategy and promote initiatives to increase diversity and inclusion to local and state association stakeholders as well as multicultural organizations and members. The Director, Diversity and Inclusion role requires open collaboration and the ability to work across multiple teams to leverage staff expertise and achieve success in the position.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and advocate for inclusion of diversity and engagement of members representing the diversity of our nation in the association at the local, state and national level.
  • Identify and analyze the demographic trends that impact the Association and its members.
  • Serve as a resource to and proactively encourage state and local associations to strategically plan and execute actions that expand the inclusion of diversity in their leadership structures.
  • Maintain close cooperative relationships with national diversity real estate partners (the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals, the Asian Real Estate Association of America, and other groups as they develop).
  • Encourage collaboration and partnership among and between local multicultural real estate organizations and local REALTOR® associations.
  • Engage with staff colleagues including Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion and Talent Opportunity to plan and implement diversity and inclusion activities across the association.
  • Identify and collaborate with state and local associations, and multicultural groups the training and tools that will assist in planning and actions to be more inclusive of diversity.
  • Provide seminars and workshops for, and speak to, state and local associations regarding inclusion of diversity.
  • Implement outreach initiatives developed to strengthen associations such as initiating regional seminars, making high-level field visits to conduct presentations, relationship management, consensus building
  • Collaborate on the development of holistic approach to inclusion of diversity within the real estate industry community and the association.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to ensure messaging and collateral is clear and unified, and aligned with overall NAR brand.
  • Collaborate with other staff engaged in outreach programs and product development, data collection and technology, and membership development initiatives.
  • Other duties, as assigned


Qualifications:

  • 10 years of business or association leadership experience, with at least 5 years of diversity, equity, and inclusion leadership experience
  • Demonstrated cross cultural communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, adapt, and manage short & long-term plans and strategies to create value
  • Exceptional communication skills—verbal, written, and presentation
  • Strong customer relations and interpersonal skills with a high level of response to all inquiries
  • Ability to travel up to 40% (once business travel resumes)
