Position Summary:
The Business Issues, Media Relations Representative manages NAR’s reputation regarding real estate business and housing issues by proactively pushing out information, handling media inquiries and interview requests with a focus on business issues.
The Representative will work closely with NAR Strategic Business, Innovation and Technology (SBIT) staff to develop media communications strategies and tactics, crafting messaging, prepare appropriate spokespeople and secure coverage to advance NAR’s messages and data most effectively. The Representative will provide event management for two communication director’s workshops and quarterly meetings. The Representative will develop and nurture relationships with key members of the business, technology, and consumer media.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Writing news releases, advisories, statements and comments, including those from the Senior Vice President, of SBIT.
- Leveraging existing media relationships and cultivating new contacts within the technology and business industry media.
- Identifying opportunities to expand the influence and coverage of NAR’s business and technology insights for media and consumer audiences.
- Responding to media inquiries and arranging interviews, briefings and monthly news conferences.
- Helping coordinate media opportunities, preparing spokespeople for interviews, and monitoring for news coverage
- Acting as spokesperson of record, when appropriate.
- Provide event management for communication workshops.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Communications experience with agency and or related area (minimum of 5 years is preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to shape perceptions of public policy and build and maintain print, broadcast and social media relationships.
- Exceptional communication skills—verbal, written, and presentation
- Team Player Attitude - strive for excellence, demonstrate flexibility and reliability
- Ability to think in innovative ways to find solutions to problems
- Strong Microsoft office skills including Excel, Word and Powerpoint
- Strong customer relations and interpersonal skills with a high level of response to all inquiries
